Benefits Information
Vacation
Fellows are entitled to 24 days paid vacation excluding weekend and holidays each year. Fellows are given two 2-week vacation blocks which they can request at the beginning of each academic year.
Meals
Fellows are provided three meals per day without charge at each of our three medical centers (LA General/USC Medical Center, Keck Medical Center, Norris Cancer Hospital).
Sick, Family and Medical Leave
Sick Leave is accrued to a maximum of 8 days per year. Three of these 8 days may be used for personal days with permission of the Program Director. In compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act, residents may take up to 12 weeks leave of absence without pay.
Parking
All fellows are provided free parking in a parking lots adjacent to both LA General/USC Medical Center and Keck Medical Center.
Educational Stipend
Fellows can apply for reimbursement for up to $1000 per academic year for educational costs. This includes reimbursement for travel expenses for national meetings/conferences, textbooks, educational electronic devices/applications. Electronic access to the ACCSAP suite and ECG Source are provided by the Cardiovascular Medicine Division free of charge to all fellows.
Malpractice Insurance
Malpractice insurance is provided without charge for all fellow physicians during training. This coverage also includes legal defense and protection against awards from claims reported or filed after the completion of graduate medical education if the alleged acts or omission of the housestaff are within the scope of the educational program.
Fellow Work Room/Call Rooms
Fellows are provided with a call rooms for use by the on-call fellow. The call rooms include amenities such as beds, telephones, computers, printers, bathroom facilities. Additionally, a fellow room is designated as a work space and break room for cardiology fellows. The fellow room has plenty of computers, a printer as well as a refrigerator stocked with coffee and snacks.
