We, the faculty and fellows of the Keck School of Medicine, seek to prepare our graduates for distinguished careers in clinical practice, teaching, research, and public service. We are committed to providing an educational environment that fosters a sense of safety and well-being, patient-centered care, and respect for others. Together, the faculty of the Keck School of Medicine, cardiovascular program leadership, and the fellowship training program are committed to the following core values:

Advancement of Equity and Diversity

As medical providers, our core mission is the commitment to service and care of our community. Through our work at our two teaching hospitals, we understand that we care for the highest risk and most vulnerable populations amongst a diverse community in Los Angeles. We commit to providing the highest quality of care regardless of patient's ethnic background, citizenship, housing status, disability, sexual orientation, race, gender identity, language, or socioeconomic status. As physicians and leaders in our community, we are therefore stewards for the broader goal of promoting and advocating for equality, inclusivity, and diversity. We will continue our goal to recruit and support trainees of diverse backgrounds who reflect the communities we serve.

Support of Individuals and Sense of Commonality

All of trainees and faculty are individuals who come with their own unique experiences, skill sets, passions, challenges, and goals. We celebrate these differences as they provide valuable texture to the community we have formed at USC, and understanding that each perspective allows us an opportunity to learn, grow, and support each other individually. Supporting each other extends beyond the work setting, and we strive for assisting each other to find balance in work, life, health, and relationships. We understand that we cannot achieve our individual or collective potential or provide exceptional care unless we prioritize our physical and mental health. For this reason, our program aims to holistically support all trainees and faculty in fulfilling their chosen path.

Learn Purposefully and Grow Together

We are proud to contribute to an institution that is known to develop the next generation of healthcare leaders. We commit ourselves to not take this responsibility lightly, and to passionately teach our fellow colleagues and trainees as we have been taught by those who preceded us. Learning is not confined to the training environment, and we all strive to be lifelong learners who relentlessly pursue further knowledge and ways to improve ourselves as individuals and clinicians. Our teaching environment is shaped by the people around us: the patients we serve, the fellow trainees and colleagues who support us through our hardest days, and the program and departmental leaders who bring us together with common purpose and celebration of our work. While we represent a group with diverse backgrounds and perspectives, we share a common identity as part of the USC family. As such, we are willing to support each other in the day to day and when things are challenging. As a team, we will struggle and prosper together.
