Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology

The two-year ACGME accredited fellowship will provide specialized and modern training in inpatient and outpatient management of patients with the full spectrum of arrhythmias and cardiac electrophysiology problems, including SVT, atrial fibrillation, complex atrial arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardias, arrhythmia management in patients with advanced heart disease including VAD patients, and patients and their family members with inherited channelopathies or other cardiomyopathies with heightened risk of sudden cardiac death. The mission of the USC Electrophysiology Service is to educate fellows in the comprehensive assessment and management of patients with “electrophysiologically” relevant disease processes.

Technical training includes a high volume of complex catheter ablation procedures with radiofrequency and cryo energy of all cardiac arrhythmias, including epicardial VT ablation, and use of the latest 3D mapping systems, and all types of device therapies including leadless pacemakers, subcutaneous ICD, CRT devices and lead extractions. Didactic sessions weekly include faculty lectures on core EP topics, and weekly “Intracardiac Unknown” sessions alternating with journal clubs. The CCEP fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in clinical research that aligns with faculty interests, as well as in industry-sponsored, first-to-market novel device and catheter therapy clinical trials. The participation of both Keck USC Medical Center, a tertiary referral centers for complex patients, and LAC-USC Medical Center, the largest LA county facility, will ensure the CCEP fellows’ exposure to a wide range of clinical cases, from bread-and-butter to the most complex post-transplant patients.
